Training Session

The California STD/HIV Prevention Training (CA PTC) is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and is a project of the University of California, San Francisco, Bixby Center for Global Reproductive Health, Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences, and the University of California, Berkeley, School of Public Health.

The CA PTC is part of the National Network of STD/HIV Prevention Training Centers (NNPTC). Clinical courses are provided primarily for health professionals in federal Health and Human Services Region IX, which includes California, Arizona, Nevada, Hawaii, and the following Pacific Islands: American Samoa, the Federated States of Micronesia, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and the Republic of Palau. Behavioral and Partner Services and Program Support training courses are open to audiences within HHS Region IX and also to those in Region X, including Oregon, Alaska, Idaho, and Washington. Courses can be delivered outside of these regions.

The CA PTC provides training courses that are designed to meet the needs of a wide array of medical, health promotion, and community professionals serving persons and communities impacted by STD and HIV. Clinical care providers, prevention experts, program planners, counselors, educators and administrators are examples of appropriate participants. Small group discussions, interactive exercises, case studies, hands-on clinic practice, and a variety of visual media are used to enrich the applied learning experiences.

Trainers with expertise appropriate to session content develop and present our courses. Our faculty includes medical and public health professionals from the University of California, San Francisco, School of Medicine, and the University of California, Berkeley, School of Public Health. Trainers experienced in community health education, client-centered counseling, behavioral science, disease management, and partner counseling are also an integral part of our experienced faculty.
