Adolescent Health Working Group (AHWG) Sexual Health Toolkit Module Training

Empower youth and young adults to practice healthy behaviors by mastering the language and skills necessary to confidently address your young clients sexual health needs and concerns. You will learn how to obtain a comprehensive health history by effectively interviewing adolescents about their sexual activity, and specifically about STDs, condom use, sexual orientation, number of partners, and sexual abuse.

Who Should Take This Course?

Primary care providers (Physicians, Advanced Practice Nurses, and Physician Assistants) in Alameda, San Francisco, and San Mateo counties.

ACHIEVE THESE OBJECTIVES:

--> Identify approaches appropriate for working with adolescents and their families on issues related to sexual health.

--> Name adolescent-specific recommendations and resources to provide sexual health care to teen clients.

--> Identify provider, youth and parent resources included in the Sexual Health Toolkit that would be of use to the population   served by the participants practice.

The Adolescent Health Working Group Toolkit Module Trainings, designed for busy providers, is a comprehensive guide that includes an introduction to practice readiness, screening, assessment, and referral tools, resource sheets, health education materials for youth and their parents/caregivers, along with the most current research, online resources, and hotlines. 6:00 p.m.  - 8:30 p.m. (2 CME credits: free; | 2.4 Nursing Contact Hours: free)

Faculty: Erica Monasterio, MSN, FNP

Ms. Monasterios expertise is in working with high-risk youth in community-based settings. She develops and monitors primary care programs that serve marginalized youth. She has trained many health care and social service professionals to increase their knowledge base, sensitivity and skills in working with adolescents, particularly in the areas of adolescent development, risk and resilience, sexuality, and substance abuse. Her special interests are the integration of behavioral health and sexual health services for youth in primary care settings.
