Recorded Webinar: National HIV/AIDS Strategy

The National HIV / AIDS Strategy:

Exploring the Impact on Local HIV Prevention Practices

Recorded Webinar originally presented on August 4, 2011

Hosted by the California STD/HIV Prevention Training Center

Capacity Building Assistance Program

Since HIV/AIDS was first identified in the United States 30 years ago, we have witnessed a multitude of prevention, care and treatment strategies designed to interrupt the epidemic and support those afflicted by it. A major milestone in the fight against HIV occurred in July of 2010 when the White House released the National HIV/AIDS Strategy (NHAS), the first domestic strategy of its kind. Since its release, major emphasis has been placed on enhanced HIV testing efforts, biomedical interventions used in combination with behavioral interventions, prevention with HIV-positive people (including linkage to care and medication adherence), and reducing HIV-related disparities.

This webinar explored the implications of the NHAS and related initiatives (e.g. ECHPP: Enhanced Comprehensive HIV Prevention Planning) on local HIV prevention practices. Key questions explored included:

  • What changes in day-to-day service delivery have health departments and CBOs experienced or believe they will experience soon?
  • How have prevention, care and treatment efforts been reorganized - if at all - at the local level?
