CHEERS TO THE NEW YEAR:

   WELCOMING 2011

This year ends not with a bang but, a buzz about budgets and finances.  Concerns about potential cuts compete with hopes about new funding opportunities.  For those dedicated to promoting sexual health and preventing the transmission of STDs, 2011 is a great time to build capacity by partnering with School Based Health Clinics and those who are engaged in family planning and teen pregnancy prevention.  Effective pregnancy prevention empowers clients to make choices about if and whenis the best time to become a parent.  A comprehensive approach to family planning includes protecting clients from infection of Chlamydia and Gonorrhea.  These STDs are associated with reproductive complications such as pelvic inflammatory disease, ectopic pregnancy and increased risk of infertility.  Condom use, partner treatment and follow-up screening are recommended options for both males and females to prevent reinfection.

SWAP provides a wide variety of promotional and educational materials on screening and related topics:
