It's About Syphilis

 IT'S ABOUT SYPHILIS

Syphilis is a significant public health issue in California, particularly among men who have sex with men. Education and training of medical providers and health professionals on diagnosis and treatment of patients for syphilis is integral to addressing the syphilis epidemic. The California STD/HIV Prevention Training Center (PTC) has two algorithms to assist medical care providers in evaluating patients for primary and secondary syphilis. The algorithms present information in a concise flow chart format that guides medical care providers in their evaluation of patients with a suspicious genital ulcer, a new onset rash, or an atypical warty lesion. In addition, the algorithms include: color photos of the range of physical findings in primary and secondary syphilis; information on sexual history, risk assessment, physical exam diagnostic issues; treatment and follow-up; reporting and partner management.
